Rights Alliance helps UNICRI

2021-06-24

United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) provides a one-stop facility offering high-level expertise in crime prevention and criminal justice problems with support to the police and prosecutor.

UNICRI recently started a case study on release groups in which Rights Alliance participates as experts. Release groups are the part of internet piracy that is well organized and hidden. The study builds around a top site case that started several years ago by Rights Alliance. The top site was discovered in Finland. The server had a large number of movies and tv-series that was spread online. Rights Alliance is experts in the field and was able to log on to the server, secure evidence and forward it to our Finnish colleagues at The Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Centre (CIAPC) that filed a police complaint. The persons behind the top site were sentenced to prison.

Rights Alliance is grateful to be able to contribute with expertise in the field. Since the UNICRI study will lead to guidance for similar cases, we are happy to contribute with our knowledge for future cases
